With the first pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft, the Atlanta Dream selected forward Angel McCoughtry out of Louisville, where she was a three-time All-American.

Since her arrival in the WNBA, McCoughtry has proven herself to be one of the best two-way players in the league. The 2009 Rookie of the Year consistently ranks among the league leaders in both scoring and steals, leading the league in both categories twice.

After losing the 2011 scoring title to Diana Taurasi by less than a tenth of a point, McCoughtry would take the honor in each of the next two seasons. In 2012, she became just the second player (joining Sheryl Swoopes) to lead the league in both scoring and steals in the same season.

An aggressive player on both ends of the floor, McCoughtry is known for attacking the basket on offense and has a knack for drawing fouls; she has led the league in free throw attempts four times and has ranked in the top four in six of her seven seasons in the WNBA.

McCoughtry has led the Atlanta Dream to three WNBA Finals appearances (2010, 2011, 2013) and has set a pair of playoff scoring records along the way. On Sept. 8, 2010, McCoughtry dueled with Cappie Pondexter of the New York Liberty during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, setting a playoff record with 42 points to best Cappie’s 36-point effort.

The following year, McCoughtry set a WNBA Finals scoring record with a 38-point performance in Game 1 against the Minnesota Lynx. This record-setting performance came in a loss as the Dream have yet to win a WNBA Finals game.

In 2015, she was named to her second All-WNBA First Team (she also has two Second Team honors) and fifth All-Defensive First Team (she also has one Second Team selection). McCoughtry ranks 20th on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list (4,347 total points) and her 19.5 points per game average ranks fourth all-time. She ranks 13th all-time in steals (507) and her 2.3 steals per game average ranks third all-time.
