"Sue Wicks is a consummate professional who embodies everything good about the players in our league," said WNBA president Val Ackerman. "She hustles every night, she plays aggressively and with intensity, she cares about the well-being of her teammates and opponents, and she gives back to our fans."
This is the first time Wicks has received this award. Cleveland Rockers guard Susie McConnell Serio won the award last season, as well as in 1998. The award was also given to Charlotte Sting guard Dawn Staley in 1999 and to Haixia Zheng of the Los Angeles Sparks in 1997.
The award is named in honor of the late point guard Kim Perrot, who helped guide the Houston Comets to its first two WNBA Championships. Perrot passed away in August 1999 after a seven-month battle with cancer.
