Checking in with Chloe Kerr

1. Chloe, you were teammates at USC with Lynx second-year guard Shay Murphy, did she give you some advice as you came into about what to expect as you enter your first professional training camp here in the states?

"Of course. I was actually there (with Shay) when Coach Z emailed her asking about me. I had an idea that I might have the chance to come here. With that, she gave me some ins and outs about training camp and how things worked. Her advice really helped me prepare both mentally and physically."

2. What was the experience of playing in Greece like for you?

"Greece was definitely a great experience. I couldn't have picked a better place for my first year. My team hadn't done so well the previous two seasons, but we were able to hold down first place the majority of the season before finishing in fourth. It was a good place for me. I loved Athens. Being that it was my first time being away from home, it was nice to have people there to comfort me.

3. How does it feel to be back in the United States?

"It feels so good to be back. Even though I'm not at home (Chicago), it's nice being around people that you can understand 24 hours a day.

4. How early did you arrive at Lynx training camp?

About five days early. It was nice to have some time to get adjusted and get my clock back on U.S. time. Catching up on my rest was very important as well.

5. What are some attributes you feel you can bring to the team as you compete for a spot on the roster?

I feel my leadership and ability to keep up defensively with the post players will carry me though training camp. I'm not as big or strong as Nicky or Charde, but I'm versatile and able to drive to the basket. My main ability is not my scoring, but I want to show what I can do on the defensive end.

6. I know first-year assistant coach and WNBA veteran Jennifer Gillom has been working with the post players, including yourself, a lot in the early portion of training camp. How has her tutelage and teaching helped you so far in camp?

I can't even begin to explain how great she has been. Even if I don't make the team, I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with her. She helped me a lot in the week before training camp. The things she has taught me this past week are amazing and I will always carry them with me and apply them to my game.

7. Coach Z's training camp features many two-a-day practices, which can be very demanding. What are some steps you take to outside of the court to make sure you can withstand the rigorous demands of training camp?

I make sure to ice every day for at least 10-20 minutes. I come in on our mornings off to spend time with the training staff just be sure that my body is ready. It's also important to get plenty of rest and sleep. Drinking a lot of fluids and making sure to do a lot of stretching are also very important.
