Butler begins her fourth WNBA season after splitting the 2014 campaign between Phoenix and Connecticut. A slashing, athletic guard, she was a 30-game starter for the Mercury in 2013.

PRO – WNBA

2014:  Appeared in six games for the Connecticut Sun after signing two seven-day contracts on July 7 and 14…totaled two points on 1-for-6 shooting and five rebounds in 6.0 minutes per game during the regular season.

2013:  Played in all 34 games and made 30 starts for the Phoenix Mercury, averaging 4.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 22.4 minutes per game…shot 39.5 percent from the field…pulled down a career-high eight rebounds against Tulsa, 8/9…recorded a career-high five assists against the Sparks, 6/14.

2012: Appeared in 11 games and made two starts for the Mercury, averaging 7.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game…shot .338 from the field, .378 from three-point range and .789 from the foul line…signed to two seven-day contracts on August 22 and 29 before being retained for the remainder of the 2012 WNBA season…scored a career-high 13 points and shot 5-for-5 from the free throw line against San Antonio, 9/1…sank a career-high three 3-point field goals against Tulsa, 9/14.

PLAYOFFS

2013:  Played in all five playoff games and made three starts as Phoenix fell to Minnesota in the Western Conference Finals…averaged 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 20.8 minutes per game…shot 40.0 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from the free throw line…recorded a postseason high with five points in Game 2 against Minnesota, 9/29…scored three points and pulled down six rebounds in the deciding Game 3 win over the Sparks in the Western Conference Semifinals, 9/23.

COLLEGE

2011-12: Earned All-Pac 12 First Team and All-Pac 12 Defensive Team recognition…averaged 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game…shot a career-best 38.7 percent from three-point range…started all 28 games in which she appeared in for the Trojans.

2010-11: Named AP All-America honorable mention…scored her 1,000th career point on Jan. 22, becoming the 22nd Trojan to hit the mark…named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season…earned All-Pac-10 Team and Pac-10 All-Defensive Team recognition…ranked second in the conference in steals (2.5 per game), fourth in blocks (1.4 bpg), seventh in scoring (14.4 ppg) and ninth in rebounding (7.3 rpg)…recorded seven double-doubles in the season.

2009-10:  Named Pac-10 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was selected to All-Pac-10 First Team…team leader in rebounding, blocks, steals and finished second scoring and assists…averaged 15.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks per game… appeared in and started all 31 games… scored in double figures in 21 games…recorded two double-doubles…named to the All-Pac-10 First Team and the Pac-10 Media All-Pac-10 Defensive Team.

2008-09:  Named the 2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year…she was the only Trojan to start all 32 games…was the team’s third leading scorer (10.5 ppg), top rebounder (5.4 rpg) and leader in steals (1.6 spg)…also averaged 1.8 assists per game…other all-conference honors included All-Pac-10 Third Team, Pac-10 All-Freshman Team and Pac-10 All-Defensive Team Honorable Mention…scored in double figures in 19 games, including a season-high 22 points vs. Harvard…tallied two double-doubles, getting 10 rebounds and 15 points at Arizona and 10 rebounds and 21 points at Cal.

Briana Renee Gilbreath-Butler was born Aug. 16, 1990 in Houston, Texas…she was married April 13, 2014 to Brice Butler, an NFL wide receiver with the Oakland Raiders…the couple met during their freshmen year at USC..the daughter of Wardell and Audrey Gilbreath, she has one sister, Stefanie, who also played for USC…her father was a track and field athlete at Arizona…was a 2008 McDonald’s All-American out of Cinco Ranch High in Katy, Texas.
