RIO DE JANEIRO — When a team brings the 2015 WNBA MVP (Ellena Delle Donne), a first-team 2015 All-WNBA performer (Angel McCoughtry) and the strong favorite to win 2016 WNBA rookie of the year (Breanna Stewart) off the bench, the other team is in trouble.

Spain happened to be that troubled team on Monday.

The USA defeated Spain 103-63, improving to 2-0 in group play. It was the 43rd consecutive Olympic victory, and it was accomplished with balance.

Nine players scored at least eight points, led by 13 points from Diana Taurasi, 12 each from Sylvia Fowles and Delle Donne, 10 each from Brittney Griner and McCoughtry.

The USA had 13 steals, 16 offensive rebounds and shot 55% from the field.

Spain as a history of making it tough on the USA — at least tougher than most teams. The USA defeated Spain 77-64 in the 2014 World Cup and 71-58 at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Spain is considered a strong team. It is ranked third in the world by FIBA and finished second at the 2014 world championship and third at the 2010 words.

Alba Torrens led Spain with 20 points.

The USA continues group play against Serbia on Wednesday.
