Countdown to 2016: 5 (Sue Bird's 5,000th Career Point)

A new era will soon begin in Seattle, led by 2015 No. 1 draft pick Jewell Loyd and the soon-to-be added No. 1 draft pick in April’s 2016 draft.

But this past season, the Storm backcourt featured the same leader it had featured for the previous 12 seasons: point guard Sue Bird.

While serving as the ideal mentor for Loyd and the rest of the young squad, Bird in 2015 continued to add to her own legacy. On August 2, she scored her 5,000th career point, becoming the 13th player ever to reach the milestone.

Bird, who ranks second all-time in career assists (2,215), is the only player in league history with both 5,000 points and 2,000 assists in her career.
