The WNBA has three primary community initiatives: WNBA Fit, WNBA Read to Achieve and Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA presented by Gatorade and Nike
. - In addition to these initiatives, the WNBA honors players who are active in their communities with the WNBA Community Assist Award presented four times a year.

Fever Players Honored with WNBA Community Assist Awards
- Indiana is fortunate to have a number of outstanding female role models on the Fever roster that make unbelievable efforts to give back to the fans and the community. In 2006, two Fever players were recognized for their efforts with WNBA Community Assist Awards.
- Olympia Scott was honored by the league for the many appearances she made during the 2006 preseason on behalf of the team. Her involvement in programs like Breast Health Awareness and the Fever’s Self-Esteem Seminar earned her the award.
- Tamika Catchings has earned the reputation as one of the WNBA’s most devoted players to the community. She added to her reputation in 2006 when she was recognized by the league in July for her many off-the-court endeavors. Whether it was signing autographs or holding clinics for kids Catchings impacted thousands of lives throughout the 2006 season.
- The Fever has consistently had players win the Community Assist Awards. Catchings has been an off-season recipient as well as a five-time winner of in-season awards. Other past winners include Niele Ivey, Nikki McCray, Kelly Schumacher and Natalie Williams. In all, Fever players have garnered WNBA Community Assist Awards on 11 occasions.
- Tamika Catchings also won the inaugural Dawn Staley Community Leadership award in 2008 for her work around Indiana and with her own Catch the Stars Foundation. The award signifies a WNBA player who is an excellent personal role model to younger children.
Fever Friends
- In partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana, the Fever match young boys and girls with an adult mentor to attend Fever games throughout the season. Through this program, Fever players interact with kids and serve as role models. Fever Friends, which started during the inaugural Fever season, partnered exclusively with Big Sisters of Indiana prior to 2003.
- Since the Big Brothers and Big Sisters programs merged, the Fever began hosting boys and girls.
Pregame Ball Exchange
- A trademark of the WNBA and the Fever, the pregame ball exchange affords youngsters an opportunity to receive a game ball from Fever players prior to the tipoff of each game.
Breast Health Awareness Night
- Each year the Fever holds a special Breast Health Awareness Night at a game. During this game the Fever concentrates on bringing awareness to breast cancer. In conjunction with this special promotion, the Fever conducts a Health Fair in Conseco Fieldhouse where several organizations distribute educational materials about breast cancer to fans. Pink ribbons and other giveaways are distributed, and breast cancer survivors are recognized during the pregame ball exchange.
- A portion of ticket sales proceeds is presented annually to the Indianapolis Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the WNBA’s partner in the initiative.
